PC Laptop Computers

Should you get a Laptop or a Personal Computer {PC}?

As far as their uses are concerned, laptop computers and PC¢s are used in pretty much the same ways. They do have their differences though. Some of the categories that you need to compare when you are in the market for a computer are: price, portability, and if it is upgradeable enough to fill your future.

Is a Laptop for you?

Laptop computers are personal computers that is portable and self-contained. They have all of their components condensed into a small hinged folding unit with a monitor {and sometimes a webcam} on the top half and a condensed keyboard and touchpad on the bottom half. This bottom half also contains the CPU and any disk drives the laptop has installed.

A laptop computers main attribute is its portability. If you are always on the go and need a computer that moves with you, then a laptop is for you. With its great ability to be moved at a moment¢s notice and easily carried from place to place, it¢s no wonder that laptops are very popular in today¢s "always-moving" society.

Although laptop computers do perform well, their performance level is lower than their PC counterparts. They don¢t have the wide range of upgrades either due to their size and their being self-contained. Where it is possible to switch out almost any part of a PC just by unplugging one part and plugging in a better part, you can¢t do this on a laptop. Laptops have a very small amount of easy hardware upgrades that are possible to make. Usually contained in a small port on the bottom of a laptop is a slot or two where you can insert upgrades. Laptop upgrades usually are more expensive than a PC due to their compact manufacturing. So, if portability is a major concern for you, a laptop would be best for you.

Would a PC be a better choice?

Personal computers tend to cost less than their laptop counterparts due to their lack of portability. PC¢s are harder to move from one place to another and have many parts to them as well. These parts consist of separate components like a monitor, CPU {or the Central Processing Unit}, a keyboard, and a mouse. Since they have all of these parts, PC¢s are not portable and must be set up in a spot where they don¢t have to be moved. There are many other components that can be added as well, such as webcams, external hard drives, and CD/DVD drives.

As far as performance is concerned, PC¢s are usually the better choice. They are more powerful, faster, and able to give you a better visual picture as well as process better graphics. When it comes to adding upgrades, they are cheaper, easier to install. So if you are wanting to save money, have a product that will allow you to upgrade easily, but have to keep it in one place without any portability, then a PC is the way to go for you.
